Hey friends. I had another post planned as my next post, but this week has really sucked, industry-wide.
If you’ve been impacted by the tech layoffs that have happened over the past several days, I am truly sorry. If you’re looking for your next engineering gig, I want to do what I can to help. I genuinely appreciate you welcoming me into your inboxes, and I want to help you land on your feet, if I can. My company’s not currently hiring, but I have another (maybe weird? If it’s weird just ignore me) offer.
I get a handful of recruiter emails on a regular basis, and I usually respond with a generic “thanks for reaching out, I’m not looking for new opportunities, here are some folks who might be” message1. If you’re looking for something new, and you have a preferred way to be reached (LinkedIn, email), I will give your info to recruiters who reach out to me if you’d like me to.If you’re comfortable with your info being public, drop it in a comment below (and if you’re hiring, please reach out to these folks if they seem like a match for your organization!). If you don’t want to share publicly, you can reply to this email or reach out to me at annagoodman@substack.com.
I hope we all get some rest this weekend.
Some people think it’s weird to respond to a recruiter email when I’m not interested in the role. I know some folks just ignore them wholesale, and I don’t judge anyone who does that. But recruiters are people, just trying to do their job (most of the time not getting paid amazingly), and I like to say hi and help them if I can!
Almost every recruiter thanks me for actually answering their email or contact. I answer every recruiter who sends me info about a serious position.
This is really sweet and helpful of you to do!
